This is one of my life's goal to visit all of the highest peaks in each of the fifty states in the USA and it's territories. I am lucky enough to have April, Paisley and now Scout as well as a cast of great friends and family that tag along and share in this journey with me.

Mount Rogers, Virginia, 5,729 feet
dec 29th 2006
wow what a great hike! I think this a one of a kind hike. pooh and I love this one! it was like hiking in another world, or maybe scottland. wide open rolling mountains with a hidden gem nugget at the end. who knew there were such a thing as a wild pony? who is ready for rounding a curve on the A.T. and bam, a shaking bush and a noise, there is a freakin pony....... a pony! this was a very busy trail losts of peeps out this day and other than the mud slush this trail was aces! the spur trail to mt. rogers was so different than the the VA section of the A.T. half way up it goes from open rocky grass land to super thick muey dense fur tree forest. we were told that the peak is unlike anything around, much like the mountains of maine. we only found 2 of the 3 u.s.g.s. markers and the famous sign was gone. what a great day! the tiny sign to the right says, "no horses"
